Being Thankful

Students wish our supporters a happy holiday

This is the week that Americans emphasize BEING THANKFUL. While Thanksgiving is not a holiday in Cambodia there is no shortage of thankfulness around Spitler School.

The STUDENTS are thankful – They say THANK YOU every day with their smiles, their love of school, and their excitement to learn.

The TEACHERS are thankful – They appreciate being able to teach children in a safe environment where they are given the tools and supplies they need to really make a difference in the lives of the children.

Parents and neighbors gather for each new school yearVillage leaders give teachers recognition for their hard workThe PARENTS are thankful – They understand that Spitler School gives their children the opportunity that most of them never had, to receive a basic education free of charge.

The VILLAGE LEADERS are thankful – They are grateful that Spitler School continues to partner with the community to provide clean drinking water and to repair damaged roads.

CHEA SARIN is thankful – Not only is he realizing his dream of helping thousands of children in his country, but he is enjoying a chance to travel to the USA and experience a true American Thanksgiving.

EVERYONE associated with Spitler School is THANKFUL for the generosity of all those who provide the support that keeps the school moving forward and impacting young lives.

Dena and Li Mao

We are very proud of Spitler School graduates, Dena and Li Mao.  These young ladies were members of our very first graduating class in 2010.  Both girls kept their focus on their education and finished three years of middle school and three years of high school.

With the help of two generous sponsors Dena and Li Mao are attending their first year of college. These days are full of classes, assignments and new friends. Dena also hopes to join the Public Speaking club soon. She recalls the times she thought her dream of becoming a teacher was hopeless as her family is very poor. Now she is excited and thankful. Li Mao expressed her gratitude through a written letter to her sponsor. Together, Dena and Li Mao joined the sixth grade graduation ceremony with fond memories of their own graduation here, seven years ago. They have such bright possibilities ahead!

Full Recovery

Kim and Sarin stand with her bikeIn 2010, Kim, a first grader at Spitler School, had severe health concerns that were almost fatal. Sarin, along with a Spitler volunteer, hurried her to a hospital just in time for life-saving surgery.  After a long recovery Kim grew into a healthy young lady and this week she graduated from 6th grade.  She received her brand new bicycle, a new uniform, and school supplies for her next journey into middle school.  We wish all our graduates a healthy and happy future, and we are thankful that Kim will enjoy a future that she almost missed.
