A Visit from Mary Waring

We were very pleased to host a recent visit to the school by Mary Waring, along with her good friend, Crystal Jones. Mary and her husband Mike began supporting our efforts at Spitler School a few years back and have provided some wonderful assistance in recent years. They made it possible for us to build a new classroom in 2015 and to make other improvements to the school’s infrastructure. They have become great friends of the school, and we are glad that Mary and Crystal were able to visit and meet the staff and children.

US Ambassador Visits Our Students

On November 4, U.S. Ambassadar William Heidt delighted our students and staff with a visit to Spitler School. He was welcomed by our school founders, Danny and Pam Spitler, and our Executive Director, Chea Sarin. Ambassador Heidt toured the Spitler School campus and spent time with some of our previous graduates – now in 12th grade. Ambassador Heidt listened to their stories, ideas and hopes for the future. He offered advice and much of the time was filled with smiles and laughter. He presented the school with a kind gift – a book about the U.S. Declaration of Independence.

This visit alone was a special gift to all of us. Thank you Ambassador Heidt! Together, we move forward in taking action towards a better future for Cambodia.

10-Year Anniversary!

The 10-year anniversary of Spitler School was celebrated in 3 days of exciting events. November 2 included the opening ceremonies with important guest speakers, congratulations for distinguished teachers, a student band and traditional Khmer dancing, and finally distributing bicycles for our 85 6th grade graduates. The evening included a celebration party for the 6th grade graduates.

November 3 was a day bustling with activities – a sports camp from Tracy Evans and her team (Kid Play International), kid’s craft time with Christie Pink and an evening thank you dinner for the teachers and their families. November 4 was a special day when Spitler School was honored with a visit from U.S. Ambassador Heidt. Some of our past graduates, now in 12th grade, were delighted to share their time with him, talking about their life, education and future.
