Clean Water Filters Arrive at the School

Thanks to two generous donors from Phoenix, Arizona, the school was able to purchase new water filters for all of the classrooms at both Spitler and Kurata schools. Water from the schools’ wells can be filtered through these devices and provide clean drinking water to all of the students at both schools. Students are encouraged to bring plastic water bottles to school so that they can take clean water to their homes to drink when they are not in school. Most of the village homes do not have access to clean water.

Sport Teams Do the School Proud

We have been pleased, over the past few years, to offer many of our students the chance to participate in some sports activity. We were excited to learn that the school’s volleyball team won four matches in route to winning a recent city tournament. The soccer team is playing very well and has a chance to win their tournament. Our goal is to use sports to help the students learn about teamwork and fair competition, as well as to generate some excitement and pride throughout the community.

A Visit from Mary Waring

We were very pleased to host a recent visit to the school by Mary Waring, along with her good friend, Crystal Jones. Mary and her husband Mike began supporting our efforts at Spitler School a few years back and have provided some wonderful assistance in recent years. They made it possible for us to build a new classroom in 2015 and to make other improvements to the school’s infrastructure. They have become great friends of the school, and we are glad that Mary and Crystal were able to visit and meet the staff and children.
