Cambodian schools take a two-month break in September and October. However, Spitler School remained a beehive of activity!
During the school break, students were offered several weeks of additional English classes. Many also attended supplementary classes in math and Khmer for two hours a day to strengthen their skills.

The staff added a fun element to the vacation program with cooking classes. Every Friday, students had an opportunity to work together on their cooking skills and then enjoying the taste of their creations.
We are especially grateful to our Super Volunteer, Nicki Vanham, from England, who helped lead and fund many of our vacation activities, including the cooking classes and a field trip to Angkor Wildlife & Aquarium Park. Nicki shares here why returning to Spitler School year after year has been so meaningful to her.

“I love seeing the students grow in confidence, discover their abilities and develop their skills over time. Returning year after year has been a real privilege, as I’ve watched children develop so much. I learn from them too: Their warmth, enthusiasm and big hearts remind me of the good in people and how much better the world could be if we all embraced these qualities.”
